Slovenian soprano Katarina Zorec holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the
Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Pia Brodnik. During her studies, she demonstrated exceptional artistic potential and musicality, which she further refined through masterclasses with distinguished national and international artists. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the Prešeren Prize of the Academy of Music for the academic year 2023/2024.
Katarina has received numerous awards at both national and international competitions. Her most notable successes include first prize at the Vera Kovač Vitkai Competition in Serbia (2019), second prize at the national TEMSIG Competition (2022), and a silver medal at the IMMCC Maribor Competition (2023). The year 2024 was particularly successful for her: she won first prize in the Opera category at the SGSM Competition in Novo mesto, Slovenia first prize at the Iuventus Canti Competition in Vrable, Slovakia, and a silver medal with first place at IMMCC Maribor. In 2025, she confirmed her artistic excellence with a silver medal at the Slovenian national TEMSIG Competition.
Katarina is also active in contemporary Slovenian opera, regularly participating in world
premiere performances of works by living composers. In 2024 and 2025, she captivated audiences as Lauretta and Nella in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, directed by Bernd Schmitt and conducted by Simon Dvoršak, and in 2025 she performed the title role of Poppea in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, directed by Eva Hribernik with
musical guidance by Egon Mihajlović.
As a concert and recital artist, she frequently performs in solo recitals and in concert series such as Young Musicians of Ljubljana, Solo e da camera, and Tutti at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. She has appeared with numerous orchestras, including the Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the SNG Opera and Ballet Maribor, and the Orchestra of the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana.
As a soloist, Katarina has also participated in performances of oratorios and symphonic works, including Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia antartica, and Larsson’s Forkladd Gud. She has collaborated with institutions such as Glasbena Matica Ljubljana, the Society of Slovene Composers, and the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, and was a member of the opera chorus of the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana.
She is currently continuing her artistic education abroad, pursuing a Master’s in Opera at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in the class of Professor Christina Landshamer.
Slovenska sopranistka Katarina Zorec je magistrirala iz petja na Akademiji za glasbo Univerze v Ljubljani pod mentorstvom profesorice Pie Brodnik. Že med študijem je pokazala izjemen umetniški potencial in muzikalnost, ki ju je še dodatno izpopolnila na mojstrskih tečajih pri priznanih domačih in tujih umetnikih. Za svoje umetniške dosežke je prejela Prešernovo nagrado Akademije za glasbo za študijsko leto 2023/2024.
Katarina je večkrat nagrajena na državnih in mednarodnih tekmovanjih. Med najpomembnejše
uspehe šteje prvo nagrado na tekmovanju Vera Kovač Vitkai v Srbiji (2019), drugo nagrado na državnem tekmovanju TEMSIG (2022) ter srebrno medaljo na mednarodnem tekmovanju IMMCC Maribor (2023).
Leto 2024 je bilo zanjo posebej uspešno – osvojila je prvo nagrado v operni kategoriji na tekmovanju SGSM v Novem mestu, prvo nagrado na tekmovanju Iuventus Canti v Vrablah (Slovaška) ter srebrno medaljo in prvo mesto na tekmovanju IMMCC Maribor. Leta 2025 je znova potrdila svojo umetniško odličnost s srebrno medaljo na državnem tekmovanju TEMSIG.
Katarina Zorec je dejavna tudi na področju sodobne slovenske opere in redno sodeluje pri krstnih izvedbah del sodobnih skladateljev. Leta 2024 in 2025 je navdušila v vlogah Laurette in Nelle v Puccinijevi operi Gianni Schicchi v režiji Bernda Schmitta in pod glasbenim vodstvom Simona Dvoršaka, leta 2025 pa je prevzela naslovno vlogo Poppee v Monteverdijevi
mojstrovini L’incoronazione di Poppea v režiji Eve Hribernik in pod glasbenim vodstvom Egona Mihajlovića.
Kot koncertna pevka redno nastopa na samostojnih recitalih ter v ciklih Mladi glasbeniki Ljubljane, Solo e da camera in Tutti Akademije za glasbo v Ljubljani. Nastopila je s številnimi orkestri, med drugim z Orkestrom Akademije za glasbo, Orkestrom SNG Opere in baleta Maribor ter Orkestrom SNG Opere in baleta Ljubljana. Kot solistka je sodelovala tudi pri izvedbah oratorijev in simfoničnih del, med drugim
Božičnega oratorija C. Saint-Saënsa, Sinfonie antartice R. V. Williamsa ter Forkladd Gud L. E. Larssona.
Katarina sodeluje z institucijami, kot so Glasbena matica Ljubljana, Društvo slovenskih skladateljev in Zbor Slovenske filharmonije, bila pa je tudi članica opernega zbora SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana.
Trenutno nadaljuje svoje umetniško izobraževanje v tujini – obiskuje magistrski študij opere na Visoki šoli za glasbo in upodabljajočo umetnost v Stuttgartu (Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart) v razredu profesorice Christine Landshamer.
Die slowenische Sopranistin Katarina Zorec absolvierte ihr Masterstudium in Gesang an der Musikakademie der Universität Ljubljana bei Professor Pia Brodnik. Bereits während ihres Studiums zeigte sie außergewöhnliches künstlerisches Talent und Musikalität, die sie in Meisterkursen bei namhaften nationalen und internationalen Künstlern weiter verfeinerte. Für ihre künstlerischen Leistungen erhielt sie den Prešeren-Preis der Musikakademie für das Studienjahr 2023/2024.
Katarina wurde mehrfach bei nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben ausgezeichnet. Zu ihren wichtigsten Erfolgen zählen der erste Preis beim Vera Kovač Vitkai Wettbewerb in Serbien (2019), der zweite Preis beim nationalen TEMSIG-Wettbewerb (2022) sowie eine Silbermedaille beim IMMCC Wettbewerb in Maribor, Slowenien (2023). Katarina ist zudem in der zeitgenössischen slowenischen Oper aktiv und beteiligt sich regelmäßig an Uraufführungen zeitgenössischer Komponisten. In den Jahren 2024 und 2025 begeisterte sie das Publikum als Lauretta und Nella in Puccinis Gianni Schicchi, unter der Regie von Bernd Schmitt und der musikalischen Leitung von Simon Dvoršak, und 2025 übernahm sie die Titelrolle der Poppea in Monteverdis Meisterwerk L’incoronazione di Poppea, inszeniert von Eva Hribernik und dirigiert von Egon Mihajlović.
Als Konzertsängerin tritt sie regelmäßig in Solorecitals sowie in Konzertzyklen wie Young Musicians of Ljubljana, Solo e da camera und Tutti an der Musikakademie Ljubljana auf. Sie arbeitete mit zahlreichen Orchestern zusammen, darunter dem Symphonieorchester der Musikakademie, dem Orchester der SNG Oper und Ballett Maribor und dem Orchester der SNG Oper und Ballett Ljubljana.
Als Solistin wirkte Katarina auch bei Aufführungen von Oratorien und sinfonischen Werken mit, darunter Saint-Saëns’ Weihnachtsoratorium, Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia antartica und Larssons Forkladd Gud. Sie arbeitete mit Institutionen wie der Glasbena Matica Ljubljana, dem Verband der slowenischen Komponisten und dem Philharmonischen Chor Sloweniens zusammen und war Mitglied des Opernchores der SNG Oper und Ballett Ljubljana.
Derzeit setzt sie ihre künstlerische Ausbildung im Ausland fort und studiert Master Operngesang an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in der Klasse von Professorin Christina Landshamer.
